Bengaline
Description : A fabric with a crosswise rib made from fibers such as rayon, nylon, cotton, or wool, often used in combination. The ribs are round and raised. Often incorporates wool or cotton filling in the ribs which doesn't show.
Fabrication : The cloth is usually 40" wide.
Subtypes : Grosgrain and Petersham are forms of Bengaline when cut to ribbon widths.
Dyes, color treatment and washing characteristics :
Draping properties :
Cutting properties :
Sewing challenges : Difficult to make bound buttonholes in it. Has a tendency to slip at the seams if too tightly fitted.

Uses worldwide :
Origins and history : First made of silk in Bengal, India, hence the name.
