These fibres are plant products and therefore based on cellulose structures. They breathe, dye readily and drape well, as well as having the ability to absorb up to about a quarter of their weight in water without being humid to the touch. However, they tend to shrink and fade when washed, and wrinkle or stretch out of shape with moderate wear. Four main types are found in modern garments :
